Privacy at a glance

The Bookish application does not ask you to create an account and does not send your selected PDF to an application server. The reading experience runs in your browser. Optional Google Analytics loads only if you allow it.

This policy applies to the Bookish website and book reader. Cloudflare processes ordinary web-request information needed to deliver and protect the static site, as explained below.

Information stored in your browser

Bookish uses browser storage so the reading desk can work across visits on the same device:

• Current PDF: the file you choose is stored as a browser database object in IndexedDB.
• Reading progress: the current page and your optional reading intention are stored in IndexedDB.
• Focus timer: selected duration, remaining time, session state, optional intention, and the number of completed sessions for the day are stored in localStorage.
• Preferences and ledger: theme choice and a short local record of finished or released book titles are stored in localStorage.

These items remain in the browser profile where you used Bookish. They do not automatically sync to another browser or device.

Website delivery and technical logs

Bookish has no application backend. Cloudflare hosts and delivers the static website and may process standard technical request data such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, timestamp, and security or error logs. This information is used to deliver files, prevent abuse, and maintain service reliability.

Optional Google Analytics

Google Analytics is disabled by default and its external script is not loaded unless you select “Allow analytics.” If allowed, it may collect visited pages, approximate location, browser and device details, referrer information, session data, and website interactions so we can understand and improve Bookish.

Analytics never receives your PDF, PDF page content, book title, reading intention, locally saved progress, or timer details. Advertising storage, ad user data, ad personalization, and Google signals remain disabled.

Your choice is saved in this browser’s localStorage. Use “Analytics choices” in the footer at any time to decline or allow analytics. Declining updates the consent state and removes accessible Bookish Google Analytics cookies.

Service providers and external links

Cloudflare provides website hosting and security. Google provides optional analytics after consent. Each provider processes data under its own terms and privacy practices.

Book recommendations may include a “Find a copy” link that opens an Amazon search in a new tab. External websites operate under their own privacy policies and may collect information about your visit. Bookish does not receive the PDF you may later obtain from another service.

Following a third-party link is optional. Review the third party’s terms and privacy practices before providing personal information or making a purchase.

Retention and your choices

Your local book remains until you finish or release it through Bookish, clear the relevant site data, use a private browsing session that ends, or remove the browser profile. The original PDF elsewhere on your device is not changed when Bookish clears its saved copy.

You can reset the focus timer, remove the current book, change the optional analytics choice from the footer, or clear Bookish site data through your browser settings. Browser storage controls vary by browser and operating system.

Security and storage limits

Keeping the PDF local reduces the need to transmit it, but no browser storage system is guaranteed to be permanent or immune from access by someone who controls your unlocked device or browser profile. Use device security, keep your browser updated, and avoid storing sensitive documents on shared devices.

Bookish requests browser-persistent storage when available, but the browser may still remove local data under storage pressure or when you clear browsing information.

Children’s privacy

Bookish is a general-audience reading tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children through accounts, profiles, or application uploads. A parent or guardian should supervise use on shared devices and the selection of external links or reading material.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when Bookish adds features, selects a production host, or changes how data is handled. The revised date at the top of this page will identify the latest version. Material changes should be reviewed before continuing to use the service.
