Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using Bookish, you agree to these Terms & Conditions and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. If you use Bookish on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for that organization.

You must be legally capable of agreeing to these terms in your location. A parent or guardian should review and supervise a minor’s use where required.

What Bookish provides

Bookish is a free browser-based reading tool that can open one supported PDF at a time, render pages, remember local reading progress and intentions, run focus timers, and present spoiler-free book recommendations while the desk is empty.

The service does not sell or license books, create ownership rights in reading material, guarantee that a particular book is available, or provide professional educational, legal, medical, or financial advice.

Your files and reading material

You retain any rights you already hold in a PDF you choose. By opening a file, you confirm that you own it, have permission to use it, or are otherwise legally entitled to read it. You must not use Bookish to access, copy, distribute, or facilitate infringement of copyrighted material.

Bookish stores a browser-local copy to provide the reading experience. The application does not claim ownership of that file and does not intentionally upload it to an application server. Clearing the desk removes the saved browser copy and progress but does not alter the original file elsewhere on your device.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use Bookish for unlawful, infringing, fraudulent, or abusive purposes;
• attempt to bypass file checks, security measures, or service limitations;
• interfere with the website, its hosting infrastructure, or another person’s access;
• introduce malicious code, automate excessive requests, or probe for vulnerabilities without written authorization;
• misrepresent an affiliation with Bookish or use its branding in a confusing or deceptive way.

Recommendations and third-party links

Recommendations are editorial discovery prompts, not endorsements, guarantees, or personalized professional advice. Information about availability, price, edition, and suitability may change.

A “Find a copy” link may send you to an external Amazon search. Third-party services control their own content, transactions, availability, privacy, and terms. Bookish is not responsible for an external site or a transaction you choose to make there.

Bookish content and intellectual property

The Bookish name, visual design, application code, original interface copy, and recommendation notes are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These terms give you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the service for personal or authorized internal reading. They do not transfer ownership of Bookish or third-party books.

Availability, changes, and local storage

Bookish may change, suspend, or discontinue features. Browser updates, device settings, storage pressure, private browsing, unsupported APIs, password-protected documents, or damaged PDFs may affect the service. Local progress can be lost, so Bookish should not be your only record of important notes or documents.

The current version supports PDFs up to 5 MB. Limits may change to protect reliability or reflect browser capabilities.

Service disclaimers

Bookish is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. The site operator does not promise uninterrupted access, permanent local storage, compatibility with every file or browser, error-free recommendations, or that the service will meet every reading goal.

Nothing in these terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded in your jurisdiction.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Bookish site operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses arising from use of the service, loss of browser-stored data, inability to open a file, reliance on a recommendation, or use of a third-party site.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it will be limited to the amount required by applicable law. These limitations do not apply where exclusion or limitation would be unlawful.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated when the service, operator details, deployment arrangements, or legal requirements change. The revision date identifies the latest version. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms where permitted by law.
